Students will work in black and white charcoal pencil on gray drawing paper, and sepia, sanguine,
black drawing pencils on cream colored drawing paper.
You can use old family photographs or take your own. It is not necessary to know how to draw
the portrait. Students will learn the process in class.
Required: One drawing class

registering for, your name, address, phone, cell phone and e mail. You are registered when we
receive your check. All supplies should be purchased before the day of the class.
Supply sheets, directions, and parking suggestions will be e mailed to you upon receipt of your
tuition check.

DRAWING FOR THE ABSOLUTE BEGINNER
MON. & TUES., Jan 9 & 10

This class is an opportunity for people "who wish they could draw or paint but feel they have
no talent" to try it out. You will learn to see in a new way. We will work in pencil and wash
pencil and learn about negative and positive shapes, contours, and values. You will be so
excited to see what you can do. It may open up a whole new interest for you.

STILL LIFE PAINTING
January 24, 25, 26 Tues, Wed., Thurs., 9:00-4:00 Oil, Acrylic, Pastel or Watercolor

Required: To have had one course in the medium you plan to use.
Limit: 10
The purpose of this class is to learn to deepen student's understanding of light and shadow,
lost and found edges, and warm and cool colors. Still life painting is essential to increase
student's skill in painting form, fabric, and objects. Students may choose the medium they
want to use, the set up they want to paint, and paint in their own style. The class will include
lessons on the principles of art, critiques, and a power point presentation on how successful
artists treat art principles in still life set ups. This presentation includes wine and cheese and
will be on Sun. Jan. 22 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Linda's studio and home in Beaufort.

to Coastal Art Supply and include on the check the class you want to take, your address, e mail

9:00. You can get into the classroom at 8.45 We will draw for spots to set up depending on
the level of experience.

STILL LIFE WORKSHOP.
JAN. 24-26 Mon. Tues. Wed. 9:00-4:00
Location: Coastal Art Supply, 812 Port Republic Street, Beaufort, SC.
Fee: $200 Pastel, Oil, Acrylic, Watercolor
Painting still life is the best way to deepen an awareness of the basic principles of art:
shadow and light, warm and cool color theory, and lost and found edges. Students will
increase their intuitive use of these principles which will help raise their work to a higher
level.
Required: Students should have at least one class and some basic experience in the
medium they want to work in.

Linda Sheppard is an experienced art teacher for over 40 years. She is a Fellow in the American Artists
Professional League, a Signature Artist in the Conn. Pastel Society, and was the recipient of an Outstanding Art
Teacher award given by the National Endowment for the Arts in 2001. She taught in Calif, Denver, Minn. NY and
New England before coming to Beaufort. Her goal is to share the wealth of knowledge she has gained from the
master artists and teachers she has studied with. Her work has won numerous national awards. She works in
watercolor, oil and pastel. Her subjects include portraits and figures, landscapes and seascapes as well as still
life. Her work is on display at Coastal Art Supply, 802 Port Republic St., Beaufort, SC and the Coastal Art Center in
Hilton Head, SC., and in her private studio in Beaufort (by appointment in the afternoon).
